Queenstown, New Zealand

Queenstown, New Zealand is located on the South Island of New Zealand, nestled in the Alpine mountains in the Southwest. This is the place to be for outdoor adventure and adrenaline in New Zealand! It’s also home to some of the best vineyards for pinot noir, a bustling downtown shopping district, and scenic drives through the countryside.

One of our favorite activities for folks here is to go on a guided full-day or half-day hike. Sure, Milford Track is the most famous hike in New Zealand and it’s nearby, but there are so many other hikes that are just as beautiful, less crowded, and often better suited to your interests! One that we love is the Routeburn Track, with all the alpine scenery and none of the crowds that you find at Milford. Let a guide take you on a day trip into the wilderness where — they’ll craft the hike around your fitness level and preferences.

Another great activity around Queenstown is mountain biking. Just like hiking, there are plenty of trails to suit all levels. One includes a ride on a historic steamship across Lake Wakatipu and travels through remote rainforest and valley scenery. Don’t worry, there will be a support vehicle following along… so you can stop whenever you want.

If being active outdoors isn’t your cup of tea, then try a four-wheel-drive tour into historic gold mining or Lord of the Rings country, or take a cozy small group tour of the wineries in Central Otago.

If you’re an adrenaline junkie, then Queenstown is the place to enjoy the first commercial bungee jump in the world, skydive over the mountains, go whitewater rafting… or even river surfing, if you dare!

Pair your stay in Queenstown with a trip into Fiordland National Park, where you can visit Milford Sound or our favorite Doubtful Sound(opens in a new tab), on an overnight cruise with just 10 people on board.
